Valentine's Day and White Day
Valentine's Day celebration in Japan is nothing like others.
Valentine's Day (February 14th) バレンタインデー in Japan is also the day when romantic love is celebrated, but there are some differences that make it unique.
During this day, only women give presents to men as an expression of love or courtesy. Those presents are usually chocolates but can also be cookies or candies. Presents are given to boyfriends or husbands but also to co-workers, friends or relatives.
Exactly one month after (March 14th), the White Day ホワイトデー is celebrated. During this day, is custom for men to return a present to the women who gave him chocolates during Valentine's Day. Traditionally, popular White Day gifts are cookies, jewelry, white chocolate, white lingerie, and marshmallows1.
